Arjun MBT
The Arjun MBT is a third-generation tank developed by India's defence research and development organisation for the Indian army and is a state-of-the-art tank that features superior firepower high mobility and excellent protection here are some facts about the Arjun MBT in 1988 to 1989 two prototypes underwent automotive trials which revealed major deficiencies and mobility the engine and the transmission the prototypes that underwent extensive mobility and armament trials in 1996 and 97 were found to perform below the acceptable standards and deficiencies were listed in the following areas deficiencies in the accuracy of the gun at battle ranges its mission reliability as well as ammunition lethality containerization of ammunition bin the emergency Traverse and the fire control system being unable to function in temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius of its armament the Arjun MBT is equipped with an indigenously developed 120 millimeter main rifled gun that has fin-stabilised armor-piercing discarding sabot and high explosive squash head ammunition an anti-personnel 762 coaxial machine gun is fitted alongside the main gun and a 12 point 7 millimeter machine gun is fitted at the top of the turret to aim aircraft and ground targets an anti helicopter round is also being developed to combat the air threat to armor the tank has special containers that can carry up to 39 projectiles of 120 millimeter ammunition and these containers keep the ammunition away from the crew providing an additional level of survivability and the rear side faces of the turret are being fitted with 12 smoke grenade dischargers the weapons system can be operated in silent using an auxilary power unit the Arjun has self-protection featuring a newly developed Kenshin modular composite armor that gives all-around protection to the tank from anti-tank ammunition Kenshin has been manufactured by defense metallurgical Research Laboratories armor design and development division the armor is made of composite panels sandwiched between rolled homogeneous armor which can defeat a PFDs or heat routs the turret houses lightweight compact Kantian armor and an option is also available to add explosive reactive armor mobile camouflaging system technology is also being developed by the DRDO in collaboration with barracuda camouflaging limited the fire control and observation is equipped with a computer-controlled integrated fire control system that has a laser rangefinder the day/night stabilized 2 sighting system is also incorporated in the system itself and the targets are hit with high first-round hit probability reducing the reaction time the system is capable of acquiring targets under all weather conditions and the stabilization system allows the main armament to accurately fire at targets on the move the Gunners main site includes a day sight thermal sight a laser rangefinder and a stabilized head the night vision facility is provided by a thermal imager and the gunner and Commander can locate targets in total darkness and amid smoke fog snow haze and dust targets can be found accurately with a laser rangefinder integrated on the main site the panoramic sight allows commanders to have all-around surveillance on the battlefield without being disturbed by turret motion the two axes rate gyro mounted on the platform of the head and mirror stabilized the view field offering dual Magnum occasion of its specifications it features a mass of 58.5 tonnes with a length of ten point six three eight metres a width of three point eight six four meters and a height of two point three two meters the crew of the Argent features four with a commander a gunner a loader and a driver
